Pro Tools 10 Zes At Dae Loaded
I changed the default directory when I had Windows 7, and it worked flawlessly when I installed Pro Tools 10 on it. Now when I install Pro Tools 10, I have an error saying that I should lower the DAE Buffer settings, which then goes on to say that if I get this message on start up (which is when I was seeing it), then I should delete my prefs. I get this message after the whole program has nearly completely loaded, listing off all of the plugins, etc. I notice the problem occurs whenever it's trying to initialize the audio interface that I use, and I've cycled through three interfaces, just to make sure it wasn't the drivers on any one given interface. The way I did this was by disconnecting the interfaces so that Pro Tools was forced to look for the interface, because it wasn't able to initialize. Whenever this happens, I select the interface, and the settings that I think will work, but it doesn't, because I immediately get the message about the DAE Buffer size.

I went through and deleted my prefs, and voila, I still have the same problem. I have now reinstalled Windows 3 times to try to work around the problem, but there just doesn't seem to be a solution I can work out on my own. Hopefully between this forum, and the Avid Forum, I'll be able to get some good info.
As it is, I have a 30 gb SSD that I want to run ONLY my OS on (clearly), because there simply isn't enough space for PT, and other bigger programs to run on it (Adobe CS5 Creative Suite). Thank you in advance for your assistance. Hi guys, i understand that you have posted this quite a few months ago and although its possible that you have already found a solution i thought it would be a good idea to put on up on here for anyone else with this issue in the future.

Basically pro tools can be a bit of a nightmere on windows and especially when it doesn't technically support your version i.e. You should notice when you have pro tools on a windows 8 system with this issue that the avid HD driver is missing from the add and remove programs. This is vital for the DAE engine/buffer. The solution i have found for this that worked perfect for me is to make sure that the main pro tools installer is configured to run in compatibility mode for windows 7 and run as administrator at a lower level than you would expect.
Firstly remove all traces of pro tools from your system inluding preferences etc. Secondly navigate to the pro tool installer to the point where you have 3 items 'setup, additional files and licences'. Right click on the 'setup' file and navigate to the compatibility tab and click run as admin as well as run in windows 7 compatibility. Click apply, click ok.
Thirdly, and most importantly, click on the view tab in windows 8's explorer window and select to view hidden files within this very same window. double click on the 'pro tools installer' folder and right click on the 'setup' file. ( this should be about 1.5mb in size. Follow the same steps in setting admin privilages and windows 7 compability mode. lastly just to double check right click on the 'avid pro tools' file (around 15.8mb) and check that its compatibilty reads 'previous version of windows' (as far as i know this is automatic) And thats it! With all of those settings now in place you should be able to run the setup file in the main folder and everything should install perfectly.

Remember to make sure that pro tools is set to open with the run as admin setting just like your installers (you can navigate to the main exe. By right clicking on the pro tools shortcut most likely to be on the desktop and clicking open file location) you can also experiment with compatibility mode although in my experience this wasn't necessary. If you wish to install any third party plugins that dont explicitly state windows 8 compatibility, run these in both the run as admin and windows 7 mode to insure all the files go in the right place. Whilst folder structure is basically identical to windows 7 the version number can really throw the installers and can make them put files in the wrong place.
Edit
Some older programs saw vista and windows 8 as 'windows NT'. Anyway, i hope this, albeit long, answer helps. If you have anymore questions don't be afraid to give me a shout on here and i'll try and help you guys out.
