Cris doesn’t need much to make an impact: his guitar played with tasty licks, his urgent vocals carrying the crowd along, and a truly great song. Cris treated the crowd at Fanfest to an acoustic rendition of his first single, the immensely popular “Liar Liar.” Creating a rock steady beat all by himself, he evoked the Police, Jamaican Reggae, and even British old guard punk and pub rocker Graham Parker.
By showcasing his talent in this fashion, Cris showed that underneath his recordings’ production values is the brilliance of a significant singer-songwriter. Cris started early: born to Cuban parents in Miami, his first studio session was at age 14, and he recorded his first demo album at 15. Those recordings caught the ear of Pharrell Williams, who began mentoring him. Cris later met Wyclef Jean, who also became a mentor, and when Cris released mixtape album, Echo Boom, in 2012, both Pharrell and Wyclef were involved as collaborators and producers.
